Medieval art work (11th through 14th centuries) expresses primarily Christian religious themes, daily life and early Chivalric themes. Growing out of the Byzantine, Gothic and Romanesque traditions, it is less stylized and more naturalistic than earlier work, paving the way for the Italian Renaissance masterpieces.
