A map of Middle-earth is mounted below the playing surface, and the base contains images of the most memorable characters and scenes from the film. The 32 playing pieces are detailed miniature sculptures of the characters from the film, made in fine pewter and measuring between 2 - 3 inches in height. Each piece was personally approved by the actor portrayed.
The chess board measures 15 by 15 by 4.5 inches. The top is plexi-glass and the rest of the board is made out of cold cast porcelain.
